Every morning
They drew my blood. They ran drug tests. They recorded my levels.
The numbers could show what anorexia was doing to my body. They could not explain what had brought me there.
Inside the gate
Life kept happening: uneasy friendships, creativity, secrecy, and betrayal.
When I left, I learned that leaving treatment was not the same as being recovered. Anorexia was not one thing with one cause. Recovery would not be a clean before-and-after.
